Situated close to the peaceful town of Haltwhistle, Northumberland, Herding Hill Farm is an AA Platinum pennant, 5 star Wigwam, glamping and dog-friendly site. Located just a 10-minute walk from some of the most scenic and impressive sections of Hadrian's Wall and only a short distance from the Northumberland National Park. The AD122 Hadrian’s Wall bus stops at the site entrance between April and October and stops off at all the major attractions along the wall between Hexham and Haltwhistle.

Herding Hill Farm is ideal for star gazing and guests can enjoy the amazing Northumberland dark skies from outside their Wigwam Cabin. Stargazing kits available for hire.

Surrounded by the stunning Northumberland countryside, our Wigwam Cabins are ideal for a short break with a range of stunning walks and Roman attractions close by. For longer breaks the site is within an hour’s drive of the Lake District, Cumbrian coast, Scottish borders, Kielder Water and the beaches and castle of the Northumberland coast.

The “Centre of Britain” town of Haltwhistle is only 2 miles away and is a quaint place with many shops, pubs and cafes. There is also a small Sainsburys and Co-op. Haltwhistle has a fabulous outdoor swimming pool with water slides which is really popular with guests. Several takeaways will also deliver to the site for a small fee. There are a large selection of walks direct from the campsite and the Milecastle pub, a 10-minute walk, with a marvellous beer garden, serves home-cooked food and local Northumberland real ales.

The site is open all year round and our heated, timber Wigwam Cabins are perfect for any season. Herding Hill Farm operate a quiet site policy after 10.30pm.

The luxury 5-star amenity block, complete with underfloor heating and sauna, available for exclusive hire, is comparable to a 5-star hotel. It includes an indoor camper’s kitchen and information room with vending machines, drying room and laundry, disabled/family bathroom, shower facilities, toilets (the ladies has two private bathrooms that have baths inside) & pot washing up area.

The site is also home to a petting farm, children are welcome to join in the animal feeding twice daily. Children's playground and field with nets for ball games. Large scenic dog walk. Small licensed shop selling essentials and a range of local produce including Northumberland ales, BBQ and breakfast packs. In season (Apr-Oct) enjoy home-cooked pizza delivered to your Wigwam Cabin on a Friday evening. BBQ hut seating up to 20 people available for hire. Fire pits and BBQs available for hire.

There are three different types of Wigwam Cabins at Herding Hill Farm, some of the Running Water and Big Chief Wigwam Cabins have hot tubs:

10 Running Water Wigwam Cabins with WC, sleeping up to 5 people each. 7 of these Wigwam Cabins have private outdoor hot tubs.

3 Big Chief Wigwam Cabins, sleeping up to five people each. 1 of these has its own private outdoor hot tub.

4 Wee Brave Wigwam Cabins, sleeping up to three people each.

Croc boxes and linen packs available for hire if you don’t want to bring your own.

At Herding Hill Farm we have 17 Wigwam cabins onsite located just a short walk from our 5-star amenity block. 8 of our Wigwam cabins have private outdoor hut tub and 10 of our Wigwam cabins have their own toilet.
Our Platinum pennant 5-star campsite is open all year round.
We allow dogs and pets in most of the Herding Hill Farm Wigwam cabins. There is a charge of £5 per dog per night for the Wigwam cabins.
Our family-friendly site is suitable for children. We have a children's playground, ball field and animal petting farm on-site.
We have fire pits for hire but do not allow guests to bring their own or light campfires directly on the ground.
Our Herding Hill Farm Wigwam cabins include - mattresses, heaters, a toaster, a kettle, a microwave and a fridge. Guests are asked to bring their own equipment and linen but we have croc boxes and linen available to hire if guests prefer. We also have fire pits and BBQs for hire.

You can order extras such as - croc boxes, bedding, fire pits, BBQs. We also offer party and celebration packs if you would like your Herding Hill Farm Wigwam to be decorated for a special occasion prior to your arrival. We can also add Prosecco, flowers or champagne for that sepcial occasion.
Yes, there is free parking for one vehicle next to each of the Herding Hill Farm Wigwam cabins.
You can check in from 3pm onwards.
You can check in until 9pm latest, unless discussed over the phone.
You must vacate the Wigwam by 10am to allow us time to prepare the cabins for the next guests.
We do have a reception onsite open from 2pm, which includes a small licensed shop selling local Northumberland produce and real ales. We offer pizzas delivered to your Wigwam cabin on Friday evenings in season.
We have one 5-star toilet block onsite which includes 5 ladies toilets and 3 male toilets.Ther is also an accessible family bathroom. Our Running Water Wigwam Cabins have their own en-suite WC.
We have a family wet room which includes a bath and a baby changing surface. There are also 2 enclosed bathrooms with baths in the ladies.
The nearest restaurant/ pub is The Milecastle Inn, located half mile from the site. Dogs are not allowed inside the pub but there is a large beer garden with spectacular views. The pub serves great food and Northumberland real ales.
The nearest supermarket is in Haltwhistle 1.5 miles away from the site. There is a Sainsburys and a Co-Op.
