Sightseeing around Yorkshire Dales National Park and North York Moors

The Yorkshire Dales National Park and North York Moors are vast areas - just 19 miles and 35 miles away from Wigwam® Holidays Forcett Grange respectively. With a wide range of activities and outdoor pursuits available in these beautiful and vibrant areas, most people allow several days to enjoy them. Outdoor activities for all abilities are available in both areas - from bike hire and gentle walks to gorge walking, archery and abseiling. There are lots of organised tours around both areas, leaving from both York and Darlington (among other places). These trips are usually themed (such as Haworth and the Yorkshire Dales) so you can enjoy the delights of the area without too much effort.

Bowes Museum

This wonderful museum known as the V&A of the North and it’s easy to see why. The museum is well known for its wide-ranging exhibitions and events, making it a wonderful space to enjoy the galleries. Recently the museum has played host to exhibitions from Goya, David Hockney and the YSL exhibition. The museum’s iconic Silver Swan – musical automation from the 1700s plays every day at 2 pm and it’s worth visiting the museum for this whimsical wonder alone!
The museum and grounds host a wide range of seasonal events - so there’s always something happening, no matter what time of year you’re glamping. Christmas markets, outdoor summer theatre productions and children’s events all take place so check the website to plan a fantastic day out.

Market Town of Darlington

Just eleven miles along the A66 motorway is the busy town of Darlington. There are lots to see and do in Darlington so make a day of it. Darlington is home of the railways – the Head of Steam museum houses Locomotion Number 1 and other curious and wonderful artefacts around the world’s first passenger railway – the Stockton and Darlington Railway. If you do enjoy train and rail history, pop over to Shildon to the Locomotion Museum which is part of the wider National Railway Museum.

For a gentle stroll and a peaceful afternoon, spend time in the South Park in Darlington. It’s a Grade II public park and the first Victorian park in NE England. Visit the aviary, watch the kids spread their wings at the playpark and stop for a tea at the lovely café.


Here you’ll find a fascinating piece of Roman Britain history. Remains of a Roman fort and important bridge that carried Dere Street, the Roman road that linked York with Corbridge. ( It’s always fascinating to walk in the footsteps of the Romans and this is a great place to do it.
