Perfect holidays, perfect glamping, perfect Northumberland
Wigwam® Sites are ideal for those getting-away-from-it holidays. No matter what you love to do on holiday - there’s something to suit you. Stargazers, nature lovers, history fans and hill walkers have the world at their fingertips here in Northumberland and there’s so much beauty to explore. No trip to this region would be complete without some time spent in a village pub, enjoying a big bowl of pan haggerty (cheese, potatoes and onions - comfort food at its best) and enjoying the company of the locals.
Alnwick Castle & Alnwick Gardens
Famously the location for the Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey, this impressive castle and stately home was built in the 11th Century. It's open to the public but is also occupied by the Percy family - the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.
Tours are available through the impressive rooms of the stately home and the museums and exhibitions that portray the history of the castle and the surrounding areas. It's fascinating stuff and when you add in broomstick flying lessons, a dragon quest, treasure hunts, a tasty lunch at the cafe, a browse around the shop and a tour around the Alnwick Gardens - (featuring the intriguing Poison Garden) it's fair to say you should dedicate a full day to this wonderful place.
Alnwick Castle is a short drive along the A1 from Wigwam® Holidays Pot-a-Doodle-Do and will be a highlight of your Northumberland glamping holiday. There are always new exhibitions and events on throughout the year - so check the website before you go.
Enjoy the big open skies of the Northumberland coastline as you lie back in the sand dunes that hug the golden sand of Seahouses beach. With views of the Farne Isles on a clear day, it’s a beautiful spot to while away an afternoon. A small harbour was built in the 1800s and you can hop on a tourist boat and go puffin and seal spotting, and of course, it’s not far from one or two tasty chip shops. You’ll find it impossible to resist the smell of fish and chips floating on the seaside breeze.
Enjoy a seaside glamping experience like no other when you book your break at Wigwam® Holidays Springhill Farm

Northumberland International Dark Sky Park
There are not many places you can view the Milky Way in all its splendour or spot the Andromeda Galaxy a mere 2.5 million light years away, but stargazers and night sky enthusiasts are treated to this and so much more. Home to Europe's largest area of protected sky, the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is the best place in England to catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis.
Northumberland National Park
Set in five hundred acres of stunning countryside, the sculpture park is now celebrating forty years of ‘art without walls’. With over 80 contemporary sculptures tucked away in the landscape, this is a wonderful way to experience art. There are indoor exhibitions, events and activities for the younger ones, a delicious restaurant and a gift shop selling unique items. It’s a marvellous way to spend a day out.
Vindolanda Roman Fort
Vindolanda - a Roman fort south of Hadrian’s Wall is said to be one of the most exciting and fascinating sights in the Roman world. There is so much to learn about life in the Roman army and the charitable trust which looks after the site suggests taking a whole day to visit the fort remains and the museum. It’s well worth a visit.

Steeped in history dating back to the year 635, learn about how Christianity flourished from this ancient location, how the Vikings nearly destroyed it entirely and taste the delicious coffee and mead brewed on the island.
