Northumberland With Your Dog: Coast, Wall and Dark Skies
Northumberland is the rare county where every Wigwam® Holidays site welcomes dogs. All three of them do, which means you are choosing on setting rather than on policy. Between them they cover Hadrian's Wall, the Northumberland coast and some of the darkest skies in Europe. Live availability is on the dog-friendly glamping in Northumberland page.
Herding Hill Farm, Hadrian's Wall

Herding Hill Farm near Haltwhistle has 17 cabins, eight of them with a private hot tub, and dogs are welcome in most of them, the hot tub pods included. That makes it one of the strongest dog and hot tub combinations anywhere in England. It sits a short walk from the middle section of Hadrian's Wall, which is the dramatic part: Steel Rigg, Sycamore Gap and Housesteads are all within a short drive.
The Wall path itself is a mix. The crags section is open access and generally fine off lead once you are away from the car parks, but the stretches either side cross working farmland with sheep, so a lead and a bit of judgement are needed. If your dog wants distance without gates, the forest tracks around Kielder are forty minutes west and endless.
Springhill Farm, Seahouses

Springhill Farm sits on the coast at Seahouses, looking out towards the Farne Islands, and both cabin types on its listing take dogs, with no pet charge. This is the beach option. Bamburgh, Beadnell and Embleton are all within fifteen minutes, and the Northumberland coast is unusually generous to dogs, with most of those beaches open all year rather than closing through the summer.
One practical note: the Farne Islands boat trips do not take dogs, so if that is on your list, plan it around someone staying behind, or save it for a trip without the dog.
Waren Mill, Budle Bay

Waren Mill welcomes dogs and looks across Budle Bay towards Bamburgh Castle, which is one of the better views in the network. Budle Bay itself is a tidal flat and a bird reserve, so dogs stay on leads across the sands, but the coastal path north and south of it is superb and quiet outside August.
Its listing does not break the cabins out one by one, so confirm which cabin takes dogs when you book. If the dates matter more than the view, Springhill Farm is a short drive down the coast.
Dark skies and late walks
Northumberland International Dark Sky Park covers much of the west of the county, and it changes how you plan an evening. A late walk from the cabin beats a late drive to a viewpoint, particularly with a dog in the car, and from Herding Hill Farm you get properly dark skies without going anywhere. Take a red torch rather than a white one, and give the dog a long line so the walk stays calm.
Practical notes
Dog policy is set cabin by cabin, so book a cabin marked as dogs allowed rather than assuming the whole site is covered. Herding Hill Farm charges per dog and Springhill Farm does not, and each shows it on the listing. Sheep are everywhere inland, especially through lambing in spring, so leads on farmland are the default. Most Northumberland beaches stay open to dogs year round, which is unusual for England, but check the specific beach before you set off. And if you have booked a hot tub cabin at Herding Hill Farm, the tub is for human guests only.

Frequently asked questions
Are all the Wigwam® sites in Northumberland dog-friendly?
Yes. Herding Hill Farm, Springhill Farm and Waren Mill all welcome dogs on selected cabins, which makes Northumberland one of the easiest counties in the network to book with a dog.
Which Northumberland site is best for a dog and a hot tub?
Herding Hill Farm. Eight of its 17 cabins have a private hot tub, and both hot tub pod types on its listing take dogs. They are the first to go at busy times, so book early.
Can dogs go on Northumberland beaches?
Most of the Northumberland coast stays open to dogs all year, including much of Bamburgh, Beadnell and Embleton, which is unusual for England. Check the specific beach for local restrictions before you travel.
Can I walk Hadrian's Wall with a dog?
Yes, though it varies by section. The crags between Steel Rigg and Housesteads are open access. The farmland stretches either side need a lead because of sheep. Kielder Forest is the easier option if your dog needs long off-lead distance.
Can I take my dog on a Farne Islands boat trip?
No. The Farne Islands boat operators do not take dogs, so plan that day around it if it is on your list.
