Things to do on your glamping holiday in the East Neuk
Relaxing around your glamping site.
Sometimes the best holidays are all about staying put and relaxing in nature. Wigwam Holidays Largo Law is on a beautiful working farm. Enjoy peaceful walks around the fields or take a cycle for a picnic under a tree. Step outside your cabin to see magnificent views across Largo Bay and the Firth of the Forth to East Lothian. Wildlife spotting, cloud watching, BBQ feasts and campfire marshmallows all make up a perfect day of holidays.
Woodland Trust Keil’s Den
If you fancy a longer walk than around the farm, the nature trails link to the Woodland Trust’s Keil’s Den - an area of ancient woodland, with an intricate network of paths for nature walks. Benches are dotted along the Keil Burn - ideal for a restful picnic. There are nature delights at any time of the year - the woodland is often sprinkled with bluebells and dog’s mercury depending on the time of year you visit.
Ancient gorge woodland blanketed with bluebells, woodrush, dog's mercury and wild garlic. This long and narrow wood provides a good network of paths. A surfaced multi-use path leads from the small parking area in the south to a rest area with benches by the Keil Burn. Pathways are sturdy and well maintained so cyclists of all levels can enjoy the den.
Upper Largo village and the Robinson Crusoe Statue in Lower Largo
With a pretty harbour and a long beach, there are worse places to while away a few hours on your holidays. Enjoy coffee and cake in the coffee shops, or something more substantial at the Upper Largo Hotel. The Monturpie Restaurant has great vegetarian and vegan options so all requirements are catered for.
Just a short walk or drive away in Lower Largo, tucked into two cottages facing the sea, you'll find a statue of Robinson Crusoe - the seafarer based on Largo’s most famous son Andrew Selkirk - the Navy officer who spent 4 and ½ years as a castaway on an island in the Pacific Ocean.
Standing Stones of Lundin
A short drive along the A915 will bring you to the edge of the Lundin Links golf course - the unusual location of the three proud standing stones. They date back to the Bronze Age (3000 - 1200 BC) and are thought to be part of a wider stone circle. Legend has it that druids used the area for rituals.
The best time to view them is very early in the morning or as the last light dips behind the hills - unless you are playing a round of golf!
Fife Heritage Railway
Open two days a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays this is a real treat for rail enthusiasts. Recent restoration work on the steam engine has brought back the regular trips along the short track. There are a workshop and lots of volunteers who are happy to chat about their hard work and passion as part of the Fife Railway Preservation Society.
