How many Wigwam cabins does your site have?

There is 1 Wigwam cabin at Longbigging with en-suite bathroom and cooking facilities. The Wigwam cabin has everything you need for a comfortable and exciting stay on the island of Westray


When is your site open?

The site is open all year around.


Do you allow dogs/ pets?

Unfortunately dogs and pets are not allowed on the site.


Is the site suitable for children?

Although there is not a children's playground, there is a large grassed area around the croft suitable for ball games and running around, with the beach also in close proximity.


Do you accept groups, parties or celebrations?

The Wigwam cabins sleep 4 and we welcome groups of up to 4 people to come and stay at the Wigwam, whatever they are celebrating.


Do you allow campfires?

No campfires are allowed on the site.


What is included in the Wigwam

Our heated Wigwam comfortably sleeps up to 4 people, the cabin includes

  • Open plan sleeping area (sleeps 4) with a double bed and a double pull out sofa bed.
  • En suite bathroom (with toilet, shower and heated towel rail)
  • Kitchen / dining area with hob (with pan, frying pan, camping cutlery and plates/ bowls), fridge, toaster and dining table.



Is electricity included in the tariff?

Yes electricity is included in the cost of renting the Wigwam


What cooking facilities are provided?

The Wigwam has a small kitchenette with electric hob and toaster.


What do I need to bring?

Cooking equipment is provided (pan and frying pan) as is camping cutlery and plates/ bowls.

Bedding and towels are not provided as part of the standard booking. A Bedding pack (double duvet, sheet, 2 x pillows and two bath towels) is available at a charge of £25 per stay.


Can I order any extras?

If you do not wish to bring your own bedding and towels, a Bedding pack (double duvet, sheet, 2 x pillows and two bath towels) is available at a charge of £25 per stay


Is there parking next to the Wigwam? If not how close is the parking area?

Cars can be parked on the gravelled area as you enter the site. This is about 30 metres from the Wigwam.


From what time can I check in?

You can check into your Wigwam from 14:30pm onwards. However, we can be flexible, so please contact us directly if you would like alternative times.


What is the latest time I can check in?

There are no restrictions on late arrival at the Wigwam. If you are travelling from another island arrival time is likely to be dictated by ferry sailing times, or flight times.


What time do I need to vacate the Wigwam?

Generally check out is by 10:30 am. However, we can be flexible, so please contact us directly if you would like alternative times.


Do you have a shop/ reception on site?

The Wigwam is self-contained accommodation. There is no shop or reception. You can expect a welcome tray on arrival with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. The island village (Pierowell) is 3.2 miles and 8 mins drive away and has shops, and a hotel pub/ restaurant.

How close is the nearest pub or restaurant?

The nearest pub & restaurant is in the village of Pierowell, which is 3.2miles (8 mins drive according to the I-phone 'maps' app) from the Wigwam.

The village of Pierowell (which is 3.2 miles and 8 mins drive away) has 2 family owned supermarkets. The normal array of larger supermarkets can be found in Kirkwall (on the main Orkney island), however it really is important to support the local business? on Westray island.


How far is it away from public transport?

The Wigwam is

  • 5.5 miles away (approx 10 mins drive) from the Rapness car ferry (to Kirkwall the main Orkney island). The Westray bus service provides a connection between the ferry and Pierowell village.
  • 5.5 miles away (approx 15 mins drive - a little longer time wise as it's through the village) from the island?s airport (flights on 7 seater plane to Kirkwall)



Is there WIFI?

Longbigging really is an escape and we are trying to keep it that way so there is no TV or WIFI, (the island does have 3G and a mobile signal and WIFI is available in the village if you really need to connect). Please also bring your own towel and bedding/ sleeping bags
