Countryfile visits the Machrihanish Holiday Park

Tuesday 19 April 2016 @ 00:00

We have some amazing Wigwam Holiday sites dotted all over the UK in various locations.

Some are only a short distance from major cities and others are reached by a straight journey on the motorway.  Others are a little bit harder and a little bit longer to reach but, with the promise of beautiful beaches, wonderful surf, amazing views and an award winning golf course all close by, it’s easy to see why people travel these distances to stay at our sites.

One such site is the Machrihanish Holiday Park, located at the southern point of the beautiful peninsula of Kintyre.

A local farmer and councillor, John Armour, has been nominated for Countryfile’s Farming Hero 2016 and he will find out if he’s won later in May.

The presenters from Countryfile, Adam Henson and Charlotte Smith, visited Ewen Macdonald, the owner of the Machrihanish Holiday Park, to chat about John and his efforts within their community.

They were also discussing the ferry which runs from Ardrossan to Campbeltown, on the east coast of Kintyre.  Initially the ferry was a temporary service set up in 2013 for only 3 years, but the Transport Minister, Derek Mackay, has decided to make it a permanent service during summer.

Ewen said the ferry makes the area much more accessible to people wishing to travel to Kintyre.  The drive from Ardrossan to Campbeltown is approximately 3.5 hours.  The ferry cuts the time down a little and allows people to get out, stretch their legs and enjoy their journey more than being stuck in a car.  And if you’re travelling with little children this can make such a big difference.

And after a recent survey we conducted, which revealed over 30% of you would travel longer than 5 hours to reach your glamping destination, we think this would be a great location for your summer holiday.

Visit the attractions of Kintyre

3 out of the 5 whisky producing regions are in Argyll and the Isles so you certainly have a choice of distilleries to visit.  Springbank offers tours and tasting sessions in Campbeltown Monday to Saturday.

The Mull of Kintyre music festival is held on the 17th to 21st August and has loads of amazing, talented acts.

3. Play a round of golf

Play a round of golf on the Machrihanish Dunes, a world top 100 course, and enjoy what many consider to be the finest opening hole in Scottish golf.

Or simply, sit back and relax while admiring the gorgeous views from your Wigwams®.
