Northumberland Wigwam Village at Scremerston near Berwick upon Tweed is the only one of its kind in the area. We are minutes away from stretches of golden sands and spectacular views of Holy Island, The Farne Islands and Bamburgh Castle. We are ideally suited for those who like the great outdoors and want to be at one with nature. Each of our 12 wooden wigwams sleeps up to 5 people. They are all insulated and have electricity giving heat and light. They all have foam mattresses to sleep on and a small table. All you need to bring with you is your sleeping bags, pillows, towels and toiletries and anything else you fancy!

The campsite is right on the beautiful Northumbrian coastline, close to the divine Holy Island. The wigwams are brilliantly set out to capitalise on the surroundings, and they're comfortably furnished with all the basics you could need. The kitchen and dining room is also perfectly equipped. You can knock up beans on toast or a three course evening meal here with ease.

Ambience

The wigwams are spaced in a horseshoe shape in the field with parking spaces for everyone to park close to their accommodation. There's plenty of space in front of the wigwams for little ones to run around while you can enjoy a drink on the picnic tables provided. The first part of the site is sheltered by an earth bank, which protects you from the winds. The second part of the site has fantastic views of Berwick-Upon-Tweed and the Tweed estuary, as well as having the protection of a high wooden fence.

Activities

Almost everything you could wish for activity-wise happens from the site itself. You can go quad-bike trekking and take in the stunning scenery of the surrounding Tweed Estuary and Holy Island. The on-site arts and crafts centre also allows you to make personalised pottery, mosaics or work with coloured sand. Cocklawburn beach has great swimming opportunities for all water-babies, and you can pick up some nice shells for your craft projects. Pot-a-Doodle Do also has a fishing lake, so anglers take your tackle. Avid walkers can grab an easy-to-read map which lists a number of coastal and countryside walks, all of which finish back at the centre. Finally, there's Bamburgh Castle, which is breath-takingly perched atop a cliff on the very edge of the North Sea. One of Britain's finest sights.

Food and drink

There is an onsite restaurant which does a variety of breakfasts in the morning (anything from a Borewell big breakfast, eggs bendict to fruity pancakes). You can also have full meals at lunchtime (steak baguette, toasties, baked potatoes or a Ploughman's for example). Afternoon and Cream Teas are available every day with a selection of homemade cakes and traybakes or icecream for the kids. If you'd prefer to cook yourself, the farm shop has a good stash of essentials including their own Aberdeen Angus beef and home-made ready meals. If you've got a sweet tooth, there's home-baked cakes and dreamy Doddington Dairy ice-cream and drinkers will be pleased to hear the site is fully licensed.

Kids stuff

This is a great place for kids to let off steam in the summer. There is a TV lounge in the kitchen area as well as a great playground outside. There's also an excellent sandy beach just around the corner with crab-infested rock pools.

Unexpected delight

The Scandinavian and glass barbecue huts are cosy additions to the site. Ideal for groups to cook for large amounts and a great socialising area for after.

If the heavens open

Berwick old town is worth a look, where you can find the most complete set of Tudor town walls in Europe, go to the Barracks museum or the Maltings Arts Centre, which provides a lively programme of cinema, theatre and musical events throughout the year. Otherwise, try your hand at pottery on-site and glaze a plate or cup to take home - a great activity to wile away a couple of hours if the weather fails.
New for 2010 - 8 new wigwams! Due to popular demand we have expanded our wigwam village to incude another 8 wigwams. We hope this will encourage school groups, organisations, families and friends to come to a wonderful part of the country to enjoy a relaxing break.
