Glamping in the Forest of Dean

The Forest of Dean region of Gloucestershire is a fascinating and magical choice for a glamping holiday - offering the best of both worlds. On the one hand enjoy the unique charm of one of England's last remaining ancient forests, boasting 20 million trees - whilst on the other - the nearby Wye Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty bordering Wales, beckons.

Once the hunting place of Kings in Tudor times, the 204 square miles of mixed woodland are today bursting with wildlife including over 30 different types of butterfly, goshawks, fallow and roe deer and even wild boar. Another distinctive feature of this area is the presence of free-roaming sheep.

As well as quieter pursuits like walking, cycling, picnics, steam train rides or a river cruise - adventure activities like caving, abseiling, ballooning and riding the rapids can also be found - in fact one of our Wigwam Holidays sites is right next to a diving centre with one of the UK's longest wire zip slides.

Market towns like Lydney with its heritage-steeped harbour and Coleford are well worth a visit. Tintern Abbey and the welsh border towns of Monmouth and Chepstow with their historic castles and gift shops are also within easy reach.

Breath taking views and stunning scenery abound as do arts and crafts and tasty local food such as farm cheeses, Gloucester old spot bacon and smoked Severn salmon. A break in one of our camping pods in the Forest of Dean is an experience to savour.
