Perfect holidays, perfect glamping, perfect Yorkshire

Wigwam Sites are ideal for those getting-away-from-it holidays. Yorkshire is a region of historical and geographical importance and beauty. Craggy coastlines melt into mystical moors and fairytale forests. On a glamping break in Yorkshire, you’ll discover the true hospitality of Yorkshire people (spoiler: they are amazing). Award-winning IPA and gin is served across the region and with food festivals and farmers markets in abundance, you’ll see for yourself that there's a whole lot more to Yorkshire cuisine than the humble Yorkshire Pudding and a slab of Wensleydale cheese - though we highly recommend having those too.

Things to do in Yorkshire with Wigwam Holidays

Alpamere Water Park

Slides, waves and adventures galore. It’s easy to see why Alpamare Water Park is so popular with water babies young and old. With indoor and outdoor pool options, this isn’t just a park for sunny days. The restaurant serves a good range of options and provides a great chill out area if you want to relax from bombing down the slides and surfing the waves.  If that all sounds too energetic, then check in to the soon-to-be-open Wellness Spa for luxury spa treatments, sauna baths and steam rooms - a far cry from the hubbub of the water park.

Wensleydale Railway

Enjoy a view of the Yorkshire Dales from the comfort of a heritage diesel or steam train. This train journey takes you through bustling market towns, over hills and fields - there’s no better way to take in the rolling scenery on your glamping holiday. It’s a short ten-minute drive from Wigwam Holidays Sedgewell Barn along the Northallerton Road.

The City of York

Only twelve miles from Wigwam Holidays Ball Hall Farm this wonderful city, with Roman roots and a violent Viking history, is well worth a visit. York has over thirty museums, so no matter what your interests, there’s something for you. Shopping in York is a wonderful mix of well-known labels and local artisans. Known as the City of Festivals it features a heady mix of themes throughout the year - from the JORVIK Viking festival, York Fashion Week the City of York Literature Festival all the way through to St. Nicholas Fair. Spending some of your glamping break in this vibrant city is an absolute must - and it’s even nicer to know you can escape the busy streets and get back to the beautiful peace and tranquillity of your luxury glamping pod.

North York Moors National Park

Something exciting happens on these moors every week - regardless of the time of year or the weather. Activities as wide-ranging as dark skies festivals, food and drink events, horse riding, biking and trekking. Learn about history by experiencing it on live history days and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst spotting wildlife.

Harrogate Turkish Baths

Don’t forget that outdoor adventures and exploring can be exhausting and you want to relax for some of your glamping holiday!  Take time out to enjoy the spas and Turkish baths of Harrogate. Dating back to the early 1900s, Harrogate Turkish Baths is the best preserved in England. A former favourite to European royalty you can still enjoy much of the traditional treatments in the ancient ritual of heating, cooling and cleansing - with modern luxury and relaxation techniques.

Captain Cook memorial museum

One of Great Britain’s most famous explorers - Captain Cook’s voyages took him to Oceana where he chartered and mapped New Zealand and the Great Barrier Reef - where his ship HM Endeavour nearly sank. Learn about his early life here in Yorkshire and discover more about the fascinating adventures that fuelled his passion for travel and voyages.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Set in five hundred acres of stunning countryside, the sculpture park is now celebrating forty years of art without walls. With over 80 contemporary sculptures tucked away in the landscape, this is a wonderful way to experience art. There are indoor exhibitions, events and activities for the younger ones, a delicious restaurant and a gift shop selling unique items. It’s a marvellous way to spend a day out.

Whitby Abbey

You’d be forgiven for experiencing spine tingles when you visit the ghostly ruins of Whitby Abbey. Perched high on a cliff top, Bram Stoker was inspired to set scenes from his gothic marvel ‘Dracula’ at the Abbey. With panoramic views across the countryside, it’s easy to see how it's inspired writers, artists and poets throughout the ages. A truly stunning place to visit (and will surely inspire loads of hearts on your insta page!)

The Deep

Your journey to The Deep begins 4 billion years ago and slowly takes you through the history of the sea to the present day. Tropical fish, sharks, rays, bugs and penguins are all waiting to say hello as you adventure through a range of tropical waters. The Deep focuses strongly on conservation so there’s lots of learning to be done while you enjoy the sights and at the end of a busy day you can enjoy a tasty meal at the Two Rivers Restaurant.
