Before reading this blog about glamping in Yorkshire, take the ‘Are You From Yorkshire?’ test. Answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the following five questions:
If you answered ‘yes’ to all five questions, then you’ve passed the test. If you’ve answered ‘no’ to any of them, you really must visit Yorkshire, as you’re clearly not familiar with this spectacular part of the UK!
Born and bred in Yorkshire means, for me, it’s the only one place to live. But we do welcome visitors, tha’ knows. And we’ve even heard of ‘glamping’!
Us Yorkshire folk are proud of the fact we can survive Arctic temperatures while wearing a bikini or swimming trunks. But for those of you who prefer the air temperature to be above freezing, Yorkshire offers the cream of glamorous camping sites, whatever the thermometer says.
Bell tents, yurts, ‘posh tents’, cabins and tipis abound – but how about a Hobbit Pod, a unidome or an ecopod? Or perhaps a gipsy caravan, shepherd’s hut or Wigwam® tickles your fancy. The choice is as big as the county’s square mileage (the same as Belgium’s, tha’ knows) when it comes to glamping in Yorkshire.
Wigwams® are great for those who are ‘nesh’ (Yorkshire for those who feel the cold). Fully insulated, heated and some with en-suite facilities, these timber constructions can be used all-year-round and are snug even if there’s a snow on the ground. For those who can brave the elements, there’s nothing better than relaxing round a warming campfire. Most Wigwam® sites permit them, so have some marshmallows and skewers at the ready!
So while Wigwams are just one glamping option, there’s an excellent choice of sites in the county. Try Discover Yorkshire Coast, which features a comprehensive yet easy-to-access list of sites in Yorkshire.
You needn't rough it any way when glamping in Yorkshire. Did you know that Yorkshire includes more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other county? While most Yorkshire folk would keel over at the price of a tasting menu, gourmet diners will love this foodie fact! Find out more at Yorkshire.com.
Yorkshire is home to two magnificent National Parks – the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Our county has become one of the UK’s top ‘staycation’ destinations and received worldwide coverage during 2014’s ‘Le Grand Depart’ ahead of the Tour de France, which has led to increased popularity for the cycling event – Tour de Yorkshire.
So, if I’ve tempted you into visiting Yorkshire, Welcome to Yorkshire’s online portal that promotes our county as one of the UK’s holiday hot spots.
This website includes listings for accommodation, events and attractions throughout the region. Yorkshire is home to visitor favourites such as FlamingoLand, Yorkshire Sculpture Park> and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to name a few
Did you know that Yorkshire is made up of four separate counties, each one considering itself to be the real Yorkshire: West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Yorkshire. When push comes to shove, thought, we do stick together, us Yorkshire folk.
So head north of the Watford Gap, mek tha’ way into Yorkshire and experience a warm welcome, a beautiful natural landscape and glamping at its best.
