Wigwam News 2008; Wedding at Strathfillan Wigwams

On the 6 September 2008 Simon and Claire Slocombe of London and Glasgow, crossed border divides and tied the proverbial knot, but when it came to the venue they shunned the usual suspects and exchanged vows amongst sheep, mountains and wigwams.

Tying the knot at Strathfillan Wigwams

Wellie boots, posh frocks, button holes and kilts adorned Strathfillan wigwams as guests and bridal party swept through the twenty acre sight, camp fires blazed and the Indians were out in force to enjoy a spectacle hitherto unseen, the sun shone and Ben Lui glimmered as the wigwam village played host to the wedding of the century.

Deciding that the cook house was not quite big enough and the wigwams too dispersed, a luxury marquee made the ultimate party tent for the Celidh.

Guests came from far and wide and set up camp for two nights, "the wigwams were pure magic"said Simon and Clair, "we exchanged vows in the bottom field surrounded by the most beautiful scenery Scotland has to offer, then danced the night away under the stars". Instead of a taxi home to a distant b&b, the guests had a moonlight walk through the site to the sound of the river Fillan, and the fiddle music before rolling into bed in a cosy wooden wigwam. (The newly weds retired to "big chief" wigwam in the woods, but mum and dad preferred the luxury of Buffalo and Bald Eagle Lodge)

Site manager Rena Baillie got fair carried away with emotion at the sight of the newly weds and friends bedecked in all there finery at Strathfillan, "it was absolutely lovely to see", said Rena.
