April saw Wigwam Holidays take a journey up to the Highlands of Scotland to arrive at Acharn Farm, former home to the historic James of the Glen who makes a cameo appearance in Robert Lois Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’. Acharn farm was restored 12 years ago by owner Corinne Alward who describes it as “the perfect quiet little place”. Set in the little village of Duror, Acharn Farm is about half way between Oban, the gateway to the islands, and Scotland’s outdoor capital, Fortwilliam.

A beautiful location to soak up the scenery at Acharn Farm.
Corinne first found out about Wigwam Holidays through staying in some herself. “I hadn’t had a proper holiday in years and I love camping and the freedom it gives you. I decided to head over to Skye for a camping trip and that was where I first saw the wigwams at Portnalong wigwam site”. Corinne was so impressed with the wigwam camping experience that she now has two 11ft wigwams herself. Having the wigwams means that Corinne has been able to diversify her sheep farm and is so far very happy with the result “they look very nice up here on the farm and we’ve been having enquiries about them already” she said.
Betty the lamb is also very happy with the two new wigwams at Acharn Farm.
Acharn Farm Wigwams are the perfect place to enjoy the peace and freedom of the countryside in an area which boasts some of the country’s most spectacular scenery. The farm itself is nestled in a beautifully secluded spot set in a woodland clearing next to a river where there are plenty of forest walks as well as cycle tracks nearby. For those who enjoy winter sports, the Nevis Range Ski Resort and Glencoe Ski Centre are also close by.
The “Tardis” of Acharn Farm – the old stone byre conversion looks modern on the inside but still maintains its original exterior.
Since the restoration of Acharn Farm 12 years ago, the old cow byre has more recently had a makeover converting its interior into a kitchen, dining and shower unit whilst maintaining the original rustic feel to its exterior walls. Alongside the fact that each wigwam is heated, insulated and double glazed, Acharn Farm wigwams offer the most comfortable and hassle-free way to camp and are the perfect way to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
