A Glampers Guide to 2016 Summer Festivals - Part 1

Monday 27 June 2016 @ 00:00

If summer’s on the horizon, then it must be … festival season!

The UK is world-famous for its fabulous festivals and shows, and if you don’t fancy camping, then consider glamping as part of your festival experience.

While many organisers offer glamping at the event location itself, Wigwam® Holidays have sites close to many of the season’s key festivals meaning you can enjoy the show AND have a great holiday in the great outdoors!

June and July are literally crammed with top-notch events, suiting every taste in music and culture. We’ve come up with a selection of events along with glamping accommodation suggestions to give you the perfect plan of action to make the most of summer 2016. Here goes!

The flagship festival Glastonbury (22nd to 26th June 2016) has now sold out but 2017’s proposed dates are 21st to 25th June. Nearby glamping accommodation includes Secret Valley Wigwams in Somerset and Bristol View … so make a note in the diary for next year’s event!

From the South West to north of the border, the Royal Highland Show, near Edinburgh is a key date in the agricultural calendar, with the 2016 dates fast approaching (23rd to 26th June).

Nearby Wigwam sites include Mortonhall Wigwams and Hilly Cow Wigwams.

Now, have you heard of a festival called Staxtonbury? No? This family-friendly music festival is now in its eighth year and is ideal for visiting for the day or for the whole event, taking place on 1st, 2nd and 3rd July, about 10 miles inland on the Yorkshire Coast between Scarborough and Filey. There are a number of glamping venues nearby, including Humble Bee Farm and Grouse Hill Wigwams. It’s a real winner for families and with public transport literally on it’s doorstep, Staxtonbury is well worth a visit.

T in the Park at Strathfillan Castle, Perthshire is a jewel in Scotland’s festival crown, this year’s dates being 8th, 9th and 10th July. There’s a huge range of Wigwam sites north of the border and sites close to the T in the Park venue include:

The Great Yorkshire Show is staged in picturesque Harrogate on 12th, 13th and 14th July and is one of the top agricultural shows in the whole country. With an amazing food hall, livestock shows, exhibition stands and lots more; it’s so huge it’s like a town in itself! Nearby Wigwam sites include Clarion Lodge Wigwams, Leeds.

And if you love the farming life, you could also attend the Royal Welsh Show at Builth Wells, Powys, 18th to 21st July. There’s plenty of glamping in Wales, including Wigwams ®.

If you love the Lakes, the Cumbrian Fells and live music, then Kendal Calling is one of Cumbria’s best known festivals on 28th, 29th and 30th July. This year’s line-up strikes an impressive chord as it includes Rudimental, Madness and the Charlatans. Tickets at the time of writing are still available, and there are plenty of Wigwam sites in Cumbria and the Lake District National Park. The festival takes place at picturesque Lowther, not too far from the M6.

There are countless other festival and shows taking place in June and July, the above are just a few! Click The Festival Calendar for an eclectic mix of music, food and art events, from the quirky to the big contenders.

If you’ve missed out on these and other early summer events, we’ll be giving you lots of suggestions in our next blog that covers August 2016 onwards!

And not forgetting those of us who’s festival days are a thing of the past … combine a glamping stay in a Wigwam® Cabin, tune in via digital radio or by a TV broadcast, and get the best of both worlds!
