Findhorn Bay

4 miles, Peaceful little village ideal for a great relaxing day trip with miles of beaches and sand dunes to explore, the bay is also popular for various watersports. There are cafes, pubs and ice-cream available.

Roseisle Beach

4 miles, Roseisle Beach stretches for nearly eight miles from Findhorn in the west to Burghead in the east.


10miles, Lossiemouth has 2 fantastic beaches, the East Beach and the West Beach, fantastic sandy beaches with dunes and rock pools, a fantastic place to spend hours of beach fun. Ice cream and Fish and Chips are available too.

Forres has it's own great golf course, Muiryshade, designed by James Braid and Willie Park the course has been host to the Northern Open 2000 and also the Scottish professional championship.

Kinloss Country Golf Course

7 miles, one of the most demanding links courses in the North of Scotland.

There are a number of bike trails and mountain biking trails locally in Forres (Sanquar Woods), Culbin, Fochabers (Winding Walks) and lots of cycle routes.


  • There are lots of opportunities for buying those souvenirs! Knockando Woolmill is a personal favourite where heritage and weaving of fantastic Scottish tweeds can be seen in action and where you can enjoy a coffee and cake and purchase some locally manufactured gifts.
  • Based at Fochabers, Baxters of Speyside are internationally renowned for their soups and jams. Free guided tours at the visitor centre. Johnstons of Elgin are the famous cashmere specialists and offer tours of their mill as well as great cakes and lunches and a beautiful shop stacked with truly luxurious and desirable cashmere.
  • Brodie Countryfayre between Nairn and Forres has all sorts of gifts and clothes, plus a delicatessen and restaurant.
  • James Pringle Weavers of Inverness is handy for those woolly sweaters.
  • Moniack Castle Wineries (near Inverness) produces wines, preserves and sauces and don't forget Walkers Shortbread (at Aberlour).
  • Gordon and MacPhail offer all you could want in terms of locally made whisky and lovely food.
  • Forres shops, Forres High Street has all you will need in terms of food provision during your stay, with supermarkets and local butchers as well as coffee shops and cafes and pubs and gift shops.
